Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Language editing and author services

  • Free English Language Editing Service (ELE) for all submissions
    All articles submitted to MARINE REPORTS may benefit from the 100% Free “Language Editing Service (ELE)” for authors of non-native English countries. It is a condition of submission that the authors request and permit English editing of the manuscript for readability. The free ELE service covers spell check and grammar improvements, and polishing academic language, which may help to improve the quality of the manuscript and increase its impact during the review.
  • Free Turkish-English Translation Service (TET) for submissions by young Turkish scientists
    Articles produced from Master Thesis and Doctoral Dissertations are most welcome. Young scientists from Türkiye are exclusively supported by 100% free Turkish-English Translation (TET) service, that means they may submit their paper in Turkish and it will be translated into English by our translation and editing office with no charge prior to the peer-review process.
    * Young scientists from Turkish Universities and Research Institutes may benefit from FREE ELE-service on the condition of providing thesis and university information in the acknowledgment section.
    * ELE and TET services are available for the first 5 article sumbissions for each volume in a calendar year.
    * English translation service is limited to Turkish for now. In the near future, services will be provided in other languages as well.

Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts should be submitted by the corresponding author of the manuscript through the Manuscript Submission System (MSS) of the journal. Only electronic Word files (.doc, .docx) can be submitted through the MSS without any page limit. The file name should contain one word from the title and the name of the corresponding author with a line in between. For example: Biofouling_Jhonsson.doc. Please avoid any special characters in the file name. All further communication will be done with the corresponding author during the submission and peer review process. Any inquiries or questions during paper submission can be addressed to support@scopesscience.com

Terms of conditions
Authors must declare that their manuscript has not been published elsewhere or under evaluation in another journal, and that they have solely sent their paper to this journal. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all participants are included as co-author and have approved the submission of the article to this journal. All necessary institutional approvals and names of funding organizations have to be mentioned in the acknowledgements, which is all the responsibility of the corresponding author. Once the article has passed the peer-review process, proofs will be sent to the corresponding author prior to publication. Also, the editing office may have the right to finalize the article for publication, therefore it is a condition of submission that the authors permit final editing of the manuscript for readability. All submissions are bound by terms of service decisioned by MARINE REPORTS, and any inquiry arisen during the publication process should be addressed to support@scopesscience.com

All article submissions to MARINE REPORTS journal, dealing with investigations related to clinical, and drug experimentations with human or animal subjects, require approval by the Ethics Committee that is in accordance with international agreements (World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki “Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects,” amended in October 2013, www.wma.net). The ethical statement and approval should be given in the relevant section before the References section (please refer Ethical approval).

All submitted articles to MARINE REPORTS journal should be in compliance with relevant institutional, national and international guidelines. The journal supports the principles of Basel Declaration (https://www.basel-declaration.org/) and guidelines of the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS, http://iclas.org/). Further, authors are encouraged to be in accordance with IUCN Policy Statement on Research Involving Species at Risk of Extinction and the Convention on the Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora for research involving plants.

Peer review process
All submitted papers undergo a peer review process with at least two reviewers who are experts in the field. During the review process, special care will be given to ensure scientific validity, technical accuracy in materials and methods, explanatory results, ethically sound and transparency, acceptable practice in terms of animal and human ethical guidelines of the country where the study was conducted, consent to publish, and declaration of conflicts of interests, if any.

Once an article has been submitted to the journal, the Editor first evaluates the topic of the study whether the paper is within the scope of the journal. After considering that the paper meets minimum editorial standards, a minimum of two external peer reviewers will be assigned. The reviewers will remain anonymous unless they disclose their identity at their own discretion at the end of their review report. Reports from reviewers will help the Editor to come to a conclusion to “accept” or “reject”, which is at the discretion of the Editor. in case of indecision due to several reasons and reports of reviewers, the Editor reserves the right to resend the article to another reviewer.

Ethical values and social acceptance principles are of great importance for the articles to be published in the journal. Therefore, the Editor examines these principles beforehand and decides whether the submission of the article can be considered or not.

Article processing charges
MARINE REPORTS is an open access journal. There is no article processing charge (APC) at any stage of the publication process, and no page charges for individuals or funding organizations. All accepted manuscripts will be available online with free PDF download.

ORCID
All manuscript submissions require an ORCID ID, should be provided for all authors in the title page. Please refer to Instructions for authors for further details. Authors who do not have an ORCID ID may register from the following link: https://orcid.org. Also, the editorial office may help to create an ID upon help request through support@scopesscience.com.

Article types

Research articles
Preparation of research articles should follow journal’s structure or simply use the formatting template. For details, please refer to Formatting template or Manuscript preparation.

Manuscripts that have been presented earlier in scientific events such as a conference, workshop etc. should be provided with information regarding the meeting organization, name, date, and place of the meeting.

Reviews, Technical notes, Short-communication and Letter to Editor
There is no specific formatting for these types of articles, however authors may use the format for Research articles as well.

An easy formatting template can be downloaded here. Line numbers should be given throughout the text starting with the title page.

Manuscript preparation
Please use the structure given below:

Title page
Manuscript title
Concise and informative. Titles are often used in information-retrieval systems. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible.
- Name and FAMILY NAME of all authors
- Clearly indicate name and FAMILY NAME (in capital letters).
- Institutional addresses for all authors
- Give authors' affiliation addresses where the work was conducted immetiatelly after the names. Use lower-case superscript letter after the author's name to show affiliations of authors.
- Full postal address of each affiliation with country name is necessary.
- E-mail addresses for all authors
- E-mail addresses for al authors should be written after postal address.
- Corresponding author

Corresponding author
The author who uploads the article is accepted as the corresponding author, who is responsible for handling correspondence throughout the review and publication stages. The corresponding author should be indicated with an asteriks after the name, and also given as “Corresponding author” in a seperate line with phone and e-mail address. It is the corresponding author's responsibility to inform other authors of the article about the process.

Main text
The main text should be divided into the following sections:

Abstract
Please provide an Abstract with maximum 250 words. Do not use any abbreviations and citations in the abstract.

Keywords
Right after the abstract, provide a maximum of 6 keywords using American spelling and avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts.

Introduction
Please provide a concise introduction without subheadings.

Materials and methods
This section should provide details of information that may help other researchers to replicate the study. When necessary, subheadings can be used. All methods which have been reported earlier must be cited. Authors are self-responsible for getting permission in case of using any licensed method in their study.

Results
Results section can be stand-alone or combined with the Discussion section, which is optional to authors’ preference.

Discussion
Discussion section can be stand-alone or combined with the Results section, which is optional to authors’ preference.

Conclusions
A clear explanation of the results should be provided in the conclusion section as a separate part underlining important outcomes and suggestions for future studies.

Acknowledgments
All acknowledgments (if any) should be included at the very end of the manuscript before the references. Anyone who made a contribution to the research or manuscript, but who is not a listed author, should be acknowledged (with their permission).

Ethical approval
Where necessary, authors are requested to provide Ethical approval document from official authorities.

Informed consent
In studies dealing with human research, a statement should be provided for a written informed consent obtained from people following a detailed explanation of the procedures that they may subject to. Information on patient consent, the name of the ethics committee, and the ethics committee approval number should also be given in details. The corresponding author on behalf of all authors is responsible for obtaining and providing written consent of any third party, or their legal representatives. If no informed consent is needed for the study, then authors have to write this as: “Not available”.

Data availability statement
A data availability statement should be provided here. An example: The authors declare that data are available from authors upon reasonable request. In case of unavailable data due to conditionals of funding organizations, etc., a clear explanation should be given.

Conflicts of interest
Any conflict of interests should be given. If there are no existing conflicts, then the authors should clearly write that there is no conflict of interests for publishing their study. The corresponding author is responsible on behalf of all authors’ declaration.

Funding organizations
All funding organizations have to be stated here with name of funding body, grant number and date of grant approval. For example: “This study was supported by the XXX Research Council (grant number: xxx, dated: yyy); the Scientific Research Project Commission of XXX University (project ID number: xxx, dated: yyy)”.

Any investigations without funding, but was logistically supported by a company, person in charge, director, or staff of the facilities where the work was conducted, then this should be stated in the Acknowledgement section.

If there is no funding available at all, then the authors have to indicate this as: “No funding available”.

Please note that any undeclared funding or support information is under the responsibility of corresponding author on behalf of all authors.

Contribution of authors
Authors are encouraged to submit an “Author statement” providing individual contributions of authors such as:

Conceptualization, Data curation, Formal analysis, Funding acquisition, Investigation, Methodology, Project administration, Resources, Software, Supervision, Validation, Visualization, Writing original draft, Review and editing. In the Authorship statements mention first author name followed by the relevant role(s). Information of contribution from authors should be provided following the authorship criteria recommended by the ICMJE (http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/)

Tables
Please place all Tables next to the relevant text in the manuscript. Tables should be cited consecutively in the main text. Provide a descriptive title for each table. Tables should be submitted as editable text in a Word file and not as images. Table numbers should be given consecutively according to their appearance in the text. Any notes regarding information or data given in Table can be given below the table with asteriks or lower-case superscript letters. Please avoid dublication of data in Tables and Results section. No shading lined should be used. Use Table format instead of self-produced tables.

Figures
Please place all Figures next to the relevant text in the manuscript. Give captions separately for each figure, and do not attach caption to the figure. Figure caption should appear below the figure body. All symbols and abbreviations can be given in the figure caption.

References
Please start the References section with a new page, but with continuous line numbers. Please cross check and make sure that each reference cited in the main text is also available in the reference list. Avoid using reference in the Abstract. Unpublished results or personal communications can be used in the text, but these should not appear in the reference list. Only documents accepted for publication can be cited as “in press”, otherwise please avoid using the term “in press” for unpublished or not accepted papers.
